What is i-studentlife?

i-studentlife is a global community for students to share their experiences, advice and insight into studying overseas. The site is run by i-studentgroup, who provide a range of services to students and educational institutions around the world.

On i-studentlife you’ll find blogs from university and college students from around the globe, talking about living and learning in a wide range of countries. By following the i-studentlife bloggers, young people can gain an understanding of what student life is really like in other countries, and help inform their decisions of where to study.

As well as the student blogs, i-studentlife also features articles on topics such as careers, volunteering, travel, sport and culture.

Readers of i-studentlife can also join the Community, i-studentlife’s very own social network, to connect with other students around the world for tips and advice on getting the most out of their student experience.

How can I become a blogger on i-studentlife?

To become a blogger on i-studentlife you’ll need to be a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate student at a university or college. You’ll need to be able to write clearly in English, and be able to submit at least one post per month updating your readers on your experiences as a student. How can I submit an article for i-studentlife?

If you would like to submit an article for the site about an aspect of student life, we’d be happy to hear from you. All of our guest writers are credited as authors of their articles, providing the opportunity to showcase your writing talents. Use the contact form here to get in touch with us regarding your ideas, and our editorial team will get back to you as soon as possible. All articles must be at least 500 words long and be relevant to a student audience.


How do I subscribe to the i-studentlife RSS feed?

You can find the i-studentlife RSS feed by hovering over About in the menu at the top of the screen, then selecting RSS Feed.


How can my company, college or university advertise on i-studentlife?

i-studentlife provides the opportunity for various organisations to promote their services on the site, reaching a young audience in a range of countries. To discuss specific placement options for advertising, please visit the Advertising page.

What is the i-studentlife Community?

The i-studentlife Community is our own social network. By joining the Community you’ll receive regular updates on all the latest blog posts and articles on i-studentlife, as well as the chance to connect with other students all around the world.

Through the Community you can make friends, exchange private messages, post in the i-studentlife Forum and learn more about higher education across the globe.



How do I register for the Community?

Joining the Community is simple. Just visit our Register page and fill out your details. Choose your own username (maximum length 15 characters) and password and we’ll email you to confirm your login information. Once you’ve logged in, you’re ready to go.



I entered the wrong email address when I registered. What should I do?

If you make a mistake when entering your email address, don’t worry. Just use the Contact Us form to email your problem to the i-studentlife team who’ll be able to help you out.



I’ve lost my username or password. What should I do?

If you’ve forgotten any of your login details, just visit the Password Reset page and enter your email address. We’ll then provide you with temporary login information which you can use to access your account.



How can I change my Community avatar?

By default you’ll have a simple grey profile image for your Community account. Not very interesting, is it? To upload your own avatar, just visit the Edit Profile page and select Browse next to the Avatar option. Select the image from your computer that you would like to use and upload it.

You can change your avatar whenever you like by deleting the current image and uploading a new one.



How do I edit my profile settings?

Once you’ve logged in to your profile on i-studentlife you’ll be able to fill out additional information about yourself if you wish. You can do this by visiting the Edit Profile page and entering your information. Please do not include any very personal information such as your phone number or postal address. Once you’ve entered your information, click Update at the bottom of the page to save your settings.



How can I edit my privacy settings?

The i-studentlife has very simple privacy options. From the Edit Profile page you can select whether you want your profile to be visible to the world, or only to be visible to you and your friends. Choose whichever option you prefer from the dropdown menu and click Update at the bottom of the page.



How can I change my password?

You can change your password by visiting the Edit Profile page and entering a new password in the Password box. You must then confirm this password in the Password Confirmation box, and click Update at the bottom of the page to save your new password.



How do I make friends in the Community?

Making friends on i-studentlife only takes a couple of clicks. If you’d like to add someone as a friend, click on the username from the Directory, Forum or your private Messages to visit their profile. Below their avatar on their profile page you’ll find the option to Add as a Friend. Click on this and the message will show Friendship Requested to confirm your invitation has been sent. Users can choose to accept or ignore your friend request.



How can I send messages to other Community users?

The i-studentlife Community includes Messages, a way for you to send private messages to other Community members. To send a message, visit the Messages page and click Compose a Message.

In the Recipient box, type the username of the Community member you would like to send a message to. Once you start typing, a list of matching names will appear. Choose the member you’d like to send a message to by clicking on their name.

Then simply enter your subject line and message like a regular email and click Send.

All of your sent and received messages will be displayed on the Messages page, where you can mark them as read or unread or delete them.


Someone is sending me annoying messages. How can I stop this?

In the unlikely event that you are sent annoying or spam-related messages, you can report the message sender to the i-studentlife team. Just select the checkbox to the left of the message and click Report Spam. You’ll then be taken to a page where you can explain why you are reporting the message, then click Send. The i-studentlife team will then look into the issue and take action.



How do I view my friend’s updates?

To view all of your Friends updates you can visit the Activity page. This will list all of the updates from your Friends as well as their latest Forum posts, letting you keep up to date with your i-studentlife Friends.



How can I tag my friends in board posts?

To tag your friends in a board post, simply put the “@” symbol before their username. Your friend will be notified that they have been tagged, helping you to share your favourite links and other information with your friends.



Where can I find a list of all the Community users?

By visiting the Directory you can view the full list of Community members. Simply click on their usernames to find out more about them, add them as Friends,  or send them a message through the Messages page.



How can I remove my profile from i-studentlife?

If for any reason you’d like to leave the i-studentlife Community, email our team through the Contact Us page to let us know. We always appreciate feedback too, so if there’s a specific reason you’ve chosen to leave, please let us know. Once we’ve been in touch with you we’ll contact you to let you know your profile has been removed.

How can I view all the blog posts and articles on i-studentlife?

There are two ways to browse through the full range of blog posts and articles on i-studentlife. You can either use the left and right navigation arrows on the homepage to view older and newer posts, or you can visit the Browse page, which contains a full archive of each month’s posts and articles.



How can I find blog posts by students based on their name, university or college, course, country of study or nationality?

If you’re interested specifically in student bloggers based in the USA, for example, or would like to read blogs by business students, you can visit the following pages:

Browse by Blogger: Find student bloggers based on their surname.

Browse by University or College: Find student bloggers based on their university or college, broken down into countries.

Browse by Course: Find student bloggers based on their area of study and degree name.

Browse by Country of Study: Find student bloggers based on which country they are studying in.

Browse by Nationality: Find student bloggers based on which country they came from.



How can I find articles by topic?

To browse through articles on certain topics, just visit the Browse by Topic page. Here you’ll find a range of topics to choose from, such as Careers, Sport, Travel and Volunteering.



How can I search for specific blog posts or articles?

If you’d like to search for specific posts or articles, just use the Search bar at the bottom of your browser window to access a list of results for your search term.



Where can I find information on studying in different countries?

Our sister site, i-studentadvisor, hosts six Country Guides for studying in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. These Country Guides contain information on the higher education structure of each country as well as advice on how to apply for universities and colleges, obtain visas, plan your finances and accommodation and much more. Forum:


How do I register for the Forum?

To post in the Forum you must be a member of the i-studentlife Community. Registration is quick and simple; just visit the Register page to sign up, or read the Community FAQ for more information.



What can I post about in the Forum?

The Forum has three sections: General is where you can discuss new site features on i-studentlife as well as troubleshooting advice; International Education is the place for discussion of higher education around the world; and Off-Topic is where you can discuss whatever you like, provided it does not break the Community Rules. Any Forum posts considered inapproriate will be deleted and your account may be suspended or removed, so please be considerate to other Forum users!



How do I report a Forum post as inappropriate?

If you’ve seen a Forum post you think is in violation of the Community Rules, use the Contact Us form to let the i-studentlife team know what the problem is. We’ll look into the issue and take action as necessary.



I’ve posted in the wrong place in the Forum! What should I do?

Don’t panic! Just get in touch with us through the Contact Us page or send a private message to one of the i-studentlife team who will move the post to the correct sub-forum or thread.


Rewards:


What is the Rewards system?

The Rewards system was created to acknowledge and reward the hard work of the i-studentlife bloggers. Each month we analyse the post which has received the most readers, and reward the writer of that post with a £100 prize.



How can I be eligible to win?

To be eligible to receive a reward you must be an i-studentlife blogger with at least one post on the site.
